Controversial images? You decide

Ht_shock_060727_ssv Good Morning America reported this morning on the "Cry Baby" Pictures CLICK here for more.  In short, children were given candy and then had it taken away while the photographer captured their cries or sad faces.  Some are yelling it is abuse… I am not so sure.  My first reaction is "get off the photographer’s back" the parents were right there during all this.   And then my next reaction is that of a mother of a "teary 16 month old"  he can SCREAM at the drop of a hat.  It wouldn’t take much to set my little guy off although I don’t really enjoy seeing him cry.  That being said, we do have some images of him having his infamous meltdowns.  So my final say.. Not in the best taste…but I doubt it left any lasting emotional scars.

Next in the news is just OUTRAGEOUS to me. Baby Talk Magazine Cover drawing disgust

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization, hospitals, parents, and CENTURIES of species survival all point to how important breast-feeding is to infants.  I am amazed at this day in age that some people find the time and energy to be OUTRAGED by a BREAST.  Nausated by the very natural and bonding experiencing of nursing.  I am not a Nursing Nazi.. just a mom (who did happen to nurse but not so much in public).  I have a son.. would this image offend me or make me want to shield him from it?  NO WAY!!  I think it is a breath-taking image, look at that baby’s gaze.

So how does this relate to Photography?  It’s all about the images! They made you feel something, so they did their job.  Were they as controversial as some are making them, let me know.

As a breastfeeding mom, I think this picture is absolutely beautiful! Nothing can match the look in my daughter’s eyes as she both nourishes herself and bonds with me in a way that she’ll never bond with another person again.
